I am originally from Brainerd, MN and though it was a wonderful place to live, I have always dreamed of living in a ‘big city’. After graduating from high school, I moved to Minneapolis. I have a background in retail and quickly got a job at a second hand clothing store. They hosted a lot of local fashion shows and gave me the opportunity to work behind the scene helping with dressing and styling the models. I even walked the runway in a show once. I also did blogging and fashion show reviews for a local event company. After being in the fashion scene for a while I started to remember how I used to dream of having my own fashion line as a kid. I would fill notebook after notebook with sketches. I decided to start looking into schools to make it happen. After looking at every school for fashion design in the area, MCTC was a no-brainer. I’m very happy I chose this program.

Last summer I went to the exhibit ‘China: Through the Looking Glass’ at The Met in NYC. The theme was ancient Chinese garments and other designs influenced the culture. There were many intricate details including beading, embroidery and trims. Fabrics were very luxe and made of silk in rich colors. I was also drawn to the silhouettes. I wanted to create a line that has a very modern interpretation of traditional Chinese clothing by mixing past and current trends.
