Winta Mengsteab

I was born in Ethiopia, and moved to Eritrea when I was 3 because of war between the two countries. After 10 years of living in Eritrea, I moved to Minnesota. Growing up, I was fascinated with art and fashion. That is why I have chosen to study apparel design, and would like to study architecture in the future. These past 2 years have given me insight into a how a single thread can be woven to create a whole world of fashion. I love texture, color and manipulating fabrics.

For my ‘The Breakup Collection’ I was inspired by the transition of winter into spring. The flowers, leaves and grass starting to sprout, covered with snow. The richness of the colors and textures, softness and elegance paired with strong silhouettes bring different worlds together.
